Cloves
Being pungent, hot, and astringent, the clove has a pungent postdigestive effect. It balances vata and kapha and increases pitta. It contains a volatile oil with strong analgesic effect and is commonly used in India to calm toothache. It is suitable in respiratory problems, cough, asthma, pharyngitis, laryngitis, arterial hypotension, vomits, hiccough, and indigestion. It is carminative, expectorant and disinfects the lymph. It is mildly aphrodisiac and increases blood pressure. It may also cause irritations.
